One of the key components to a great vocal recording is to begin with the right microphone. Just as your voice has its own unique personality, each microphone carries its own set of unique characteristics. We're experts at matching the right mic to your voice, to bring out the very best in your natural tone and fit the sound to the song being recorded. Our selection of microphones provides many options, from standard dynamic models from Shure and Audix, to small and large condensers from Audio Technica, Oktava, and Sennheiser, even a custom-built Red condenser mic and beautiful Cascade ribbon model. Your chosen mic will be processed through carefully chosen state of the art equipment, including the highly-prized Universal Audio LA-610. You've heard this preamp on countless recordings for many years!

Much depends on the time you spend warming up and how quickly and accurately you can lay down lines. During a singing session, our production engineer will also work with you on microphone technique and layering of vocals. Singers are able to select backings from our extensive in-house catalogue, or request more unusual tracks to be ordered in. Singers may also sing tracks and accompany themselves on guitar, piano, or whatever instrument they are used to playing, and may even record their own songs, as well as adding full instrumentation and additional vocals. The "Studio Time" is where you start. From there, Scott Mead works on the scratch and keeper tracks with vocal tuning software for that additional polish he brings with years of experience! We also have a variety of vocal effects and techniques to lend different qualities to your vocals.  Your vision for the label design is rendered (makeover and photo services are additional options).
